Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2

What had possibly went wrong?

Whitepaper says, "Extending the schema before introducing R2 SP2 to existing environment first"? So they wanted to do an In-place upgrade - so it means one of those domain controllers has to be upgraded first no matter what, so it is clear that the schema has to be extended first anyway, then why?????!!!!!

So you must upgrade the Active Directory schema first before you can install it? Shouldn't you be able to install it first, then upgrade it afterwards? The machine is going to be down anyway...

Theoritically I think the schema has to be extended first before you can introduce any R2 server - not sure if it would work otherwise.
